The Wicked Sisters

Author | Nooshin Ghanbari

A foolish thought, to say a sorry sight.
                    —    Lady Macbeth

On a pale orange evening,
we crawled out onto the roof

to the tremolo of Kurzel’s “Dunsinane.”
Four women trying in vain to open

a bottle with a boot. Four women,
crimson-lipped mouths open wide

in laughter. Four women with shards
of glass and wine at their feet,

a sorry sight. Malbec rorschachs
through the soles of my shoes,

spots of inky tannic red soaking into
white, but I close my eyes anyway,

turn my head up to the clouds.
